about

After her children left the nest, Laura studied “Fundamentals’ at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Eric Neff and Eve Thomson, in the Painting department, saw her potential and encouraged her to paint whenever and wherever she could.

After moving to Freedom, NH, located between the Lakes Region and White Mountains, the landscapes and clear light inspired Laura to take pleinair workshops with Martha Lohaus in Wolfeboro.  Soon after, Peg Scully, an award-winning water colorist from Freedom, invited her to join her group of Tuesday painters and she’s continued to enjoy that to this day.

Though Laura and her husband, Maynard enjoy traveling to different places, San Miguel De Allende, Mexico , has become a frequent stop so that Laura can have time to devote to painting.  Erv Kaczmarek was her “motivator” and “advisor “ for 5 years, but since his death, she has painted with Gerardo Ruiz and Michaela Emeson—both exceptional artists and friends.

Laura’s paintings can often be recognized by their bold and vivid colors. The subject matter is often imaginative and cartoon-like, possibly inspiring fun conversation.

Laura is a member of the Mount Washington Valley Arts Association and exhibits regularly in their shows at the Downstairs Gallery or the Met Cafe’.  In 2014, she exhibited work at the Group 8 Gallery in Jackson, The Inn at Crystal Lake in Eaton, The Snow Village Inn in Eaton, The Freedom Public Library and the Freedom Village Store. Currently, many paintings and prints are at the Darbyfield Inn in Albany, NH. and the Freedom Village Store. Her work is also in many private collections around the country.
